The Bills win in Chicago wasn’t pretty. The Bills have the lowest ranked passing offense of any winning team in week 1. Manuel played well he completed 72.7 percent of his passes for 1 touchdown and 1 interception, leaving him with a TID of 0. He had 4 passing plays go for 20+ yards and a total of 173 yards. On the other hand the Bills rushing game combined for 193 yards 3rd best in the NFL. The problem is that the Bills looked very average, no one really seemed to distinguish themselves against Chicago. The most memorable play was defensive tackle Kyle Williams 1st career interception.
Ryan Tannehill completed 56.3% of his passes for two touchdowns and one interceptions for a 3.2 TID. Tannehill posted 178 yards and only 2 20+ passing plays. This team is not going to win on Tannehill’s arm that much is clear. Offseason acquisition Knowshon Moreno piled up 134 yards on 24 attempts for a 5.6 yards a carry average. Matt Forte was able to put up 82 yards on the Bills and if not for the fact that he has more value to Jay Cutler in the passing game Forte probably would have rushed for over 100 yards. If the Dolphins are going to win Moreno is going to need a big day.
The Key matchup in this game is going to be E.J. Manuel versus the Dolphins secondary, Manuel needs to prove he has taken the next step in his game. There are a number of wily veterans in the Dolphins secondary who can be difference makers in this game. The question in this game is will Manuel continue his progression or will he regress?
Teams strive to strike a balance between their run and pass games the Dolphins and the Bills if you look at their totals seem to have found it. I think Tannehill is the better quarterback and under normal circumstances I think his experience would make all the difference. There is one thing that gives Buffalo the edge this week, the announcement that the Wilson’s will be selling the Bills to Terry and Kim Pegula the owner’s of the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres. This is news is so good for Bills fans who have been worried that the new owners might look to relocate their team, I think the fans become a factor, expect the Bills players to feed off the crowd’s energy.
Final Score: Bills 20 Dolphins 17
